Building Britain's Critical Power Platform

Alderway is building an integrated UK group across critical power and electrical infrastructure.

We acquire established businesses from owners ready to step away, providing a clean and considered exit. We then bring what they’ve built into a platform that keeps Britain’s essential infrastructure running when it matters most.

One Home for the UK's Critical Power Specialists

When it comes to UK critical power, many businesses do just one part of the job. One installs generators, another services them and a third hires temporary power when something fails.

Alderway makes this happen with power from one trusted group, delivered to the same high standard, every time.

The customers we serve - hospitals, data centres, defence sites, financial institutions and the country's major venues - increasingly want all of these services in one place.

Demand for Critical Power is Rising Faster than Supply

UK electricity demand is forecast to grow by up to 150% by 2050 and already we’re seeing customers who depend on back-up power, spending more and asking for higher standards. That’s why we’re building a group that can meet that demand, at scale.

The Businesses We Buy

We acquire UK-based, owner-managed critical power and electrical infrastructure businesses where the owner is ready to step away. Each acquisition then becomes a permanent part of the group.

They will all sit in one of six capability areas: generator supply and installation, UPS and standby power systems, maintenance and service providers, temporary power and generator hire, critical power electrical infrastructure, or fuel tank and acoustic enclosure manufacturers.

The Group Today

The platform is being built around Ingram Installations, our first acquisition. Ingram designs, installs and maintains generators, UPS and electrical infrastructure systems for blue-chip UK clients including NHS trusts, data centres and major venues.

Each business we acquire joins Ingram under a single group built on strong capabilities and high safety standards. The individual  operating brands remain serving the customers that already know them.

How The Sale Process Works

Owners we speak to are usually surprised by how quickly a sale can move when there's only one buyer in the room.

We work at a pace that suits the seller, but for those wanting to move fast, a first conversation to a written indicative offer can happen in as little as two to three weeks, with completion in around 12.

We have built and Exited a UK Platform Before

Alderway's founding team built Vanarama from a Portakabin on a used-car site into the UK's leading vehicle leasing platform, exiting to Auto Trader for £200 million.

The same team - Andy Alderson, the partners who worked alongside him, and the operating discipline that scaled Vanarama - is now building the critical power group.

The Team Building the Group

Alderway is led by Andy Alderson and the partners who scaled and exited Vanarama with him. Each member of the team holds a specific role in the platform: leading acquisitions, running integration, managing finance, and supporting the operating businesses through the post-deal period.

Andy Alderson

Founder & Managing Partner

Andy Alderson is beyond proud to be the Founder and now former CEO of Vanarama, a business he started in a Portakabin on a used car site, and ended up selling to the FTSE 100 giant, Auto Trader for £200 million.

Now with his Partners, all of whom he has worked with very closely before, and who each played a role in Vanarama’s success, Andy could not be more excited to dedicate his time and money to supporting, nurturing and empowering the next generation of business leaders as Founder and Managing Partner of Alderway.
